Nothing says summer like bright Sunflowers! Growing them for yourself is a fun and rewarding experience, and there’s even the payoff of delicious self-grown munchies in the form of sunflower seeds.

Did You Know:

  • Sunflowers’ scientific name comes from the Greek words helios (“sun”) and anthos (“flower”)

  • Whole, dry sunflower heads make great winter bird feeders!

They aren’t called sunflowers for nothing, so make sure they’ve got full sun in deep, well-draining soil that is loose and rich. Water young ones in the root zone, and once established, water deeply about once a week.
