Home center will move into K-Mart space by end of year
Special to The Standard
Marvin's Building Materials and Home Centers announced this week that a new store will open soon in Brewton.
Expected to open in late 2004, Marvin's describes itself as "friendly, neighborhood stores that make home improvement projects easy and affordable." The store is currently under construction at the former K-Mart site on 1840 Douglas Avenue (U.S. Hwy 31). It will include a 35,000-square-foot store with an attached lawn and garden center and drive-through lumberyard.
Marvin's opened its first store in 1945 in Gadsden, Ala. Over the past 59 years, Marvin's has grown to 21 stores in Alabama and Mississippi with more than 500 employees.
"We are very excited to be opening our 22nd store in Brewton. The store will offer a complete line of building materials, electrical, plumbing, paint, millwork, hardware, tools, as well as lawn and garden products. We plan to offer Brewton a convenient alternative for their home improvement needs," said Boyden Moore, President and CEO.
Marvin's stores feature a drive-through lumberyard that makes shopping for lumber, cement, roofing, and plywood easier.
"Customers can drive into the lumberyard, select the products that they want, load up, walk inside and pay, and be on their way in a flash. Making it easy for our customers is what Marvin's is all about," said Moore.
Marvin's will hire 30 or more associates to work in the Brewton store.
"We like to hire friendly people from the community. All of our stores have a 'hometown' feel," said Moore. People interested can apply for a job at the new store in Brewton by filling out an application at the Alabama Career Center in Brewton at 1023 Douglas Avenue, Suite 314 beginning Aug. 2.
Positions available range from store management to part-time cashiers and sales associates.
