Our History

In 1945, Marvin Cohn opened a hardware store in Alabama City (now Gadsden), Alabama. His initial goal was to provide excellent service coupled with quality products. As business grew, Marvin opened an additional Gadsden location and added housewares, a small line of electrical supplies and plumbing supplies. In 1956, a warehouse was rented to accommodate Marvin's growing list of new products. Lumber, plywood, siding, and millwork were now part of Marvin's inventory. The business continued to expand and in 1965, a full-service home center was constructed to replace the two older stores.
In 1966, Marvin's oldest son, Alfred, joined the company after completing his formal education. Since that time, Alfred guided the collective efforts of our growing team of associates to expand throughout Alabama and Mississippi. Marvin's is now based in Leeds, Alabama (near Birmingham) and is still dedicated to exceeding customers' expectations with our outstanding service and low prices. For the past 60 years, Marvin's has been devoted to providing a positive work environment. The results of this dedication have built a successful company staffed with a "family" of hundreds of associates. As we look toward a bright and promising future, our plans for growth continue. This expansion is creating many new opportunities for enthusiastic individuals with the desire to learn, grow, and succeed.
